The Great Migration: How Biotech Corporation Unified Their Data Intelligence

The Challenge

Biotech Corporation struggled with fragmented data management due to their Collibra Data Catalog and Data Quality setup, resulting in high total cost of ownership. Metadata challenges and governance silos arose from Collibra's disconnected components, hindering enterprise-wide visibility. The organization needed improved scalability while reducing delays from custom workflow maintenance in Collibra. They also required preparation for future enterprise-wide DQ rule rollout and comprehensive data product governance.

The Solution

We led a comprehensive platform rationalization initiative, replacing Collibra with Informatica IDMC (CDGC, CDMP, CDQ, CDI) to create a unified data management ecosystem. The solution included designing a unified metadata strategy leveraging CDGC + CDMP, enabling scalable lineage, glossary-to-asset linking, and role-based catalog access.

We evaluated out-of-the-box capabilities in CDGC/CDMP to support certification, stewardship, and SLA tagging without complex scripting. The implementation established CDQ/CDP services and enabled CDMP as a publishing layer for curated and SLA-tagged datasets, ensuring comprehensive data governance across the enterprise.

The Results

The successful platform takeout resulted in retiring the Collibra stack, significantly reducing licensing and integration overhead while laying the foundation for end-to-end governance maturity. Governance processes were simplified through elimination of manual stitching workflows, enabling centralized glossary management and improved onboarding for business users.

Operational efficiency improved dramatically by avoiding technical debt from custom Collibra workflows and accelerating time to value through reusable components in Informatica. Most importantly, the implementation established a future-ready foundation with IDMC groundwork laid, positioning Biotech Corporation to scale data quality services and launch a governed data marketplace.
